📖 CTSL App — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the CTSL App?

CTSL (Cell Tower Site Locator) is a simple, powerful tool for technicians, engineers, and managers to locate tower sites by Site ID. It lets you import a CSV file of tower information, quickly search by Site ID, view latitude and longitude, and open locations directly in Apple Maps or Google Maps.

📁 What kind of file do I need to use with CTSL?

CTSL reads data from a CSV (Comma Separated Values) file that contains three columns:

  • Site ID

  • Latitude

  • Longitude

The first row of your file must include these exact labels.
You can create this file in Excel, Google Sheets, or Numbers and export it as a .csv.

📲 How do I load my CSV file into the app?

  1. Save your .csv file to iCloud Drive or the Files app on your iPhone.

  2. Open CTSL.

  3. Tap “Import CSV File” or “Load Site List.”

  4. Select your file — CTSL will automatically load all the Site IDs into the dropdown menu.

🗺️ How do I open a site in Apple Maps or Google Maps?

After selecting a Site ID, you’ll see its Latitude and Longitude displayed below.
Tap “Open in Apple Maps” or “Open in Google Maps” — the app will launch your chosen map app with the coordinates already entered.

✏️ Can I add new sites manually?

Yes! Tap the “Add Site” button at the bottom of the main screen to enter a new Site ID, Latitude, and Longitude.
Once saved, it will appear in your list for future lookups.

🔁 Can I update my site list later?

Absolutely.
Just create a new or updated CSV file with your latest data and re-import it into CTSL — the app will refresh your site list automatically.

📍 Do I need internet access to use CTSL?

You only need internet access to load map directions.
Site lookups and data from your imported CSV work offline, making it ideal for fieldwork in remote areas.

⚙️ What happens if my CSV doesn’t load correctly?

Double-check these common issues:

  • Column names are not spelled exactly as Site ID, Latitude, Longitude.

  • The file wasn’t saved as .csv (Comma delimited).

  • There are empty rows or extra commas in your data.
Fix the file, re-save it, and import again.

🧭 Does CTSL store or upload my data anywhere?

No. All your CSV files and added site information stay entirely on your device.
CTSL does not collect, store, or transmit any personal or location data externally.
